Description

M101 or the Pinwheel galaxy as it is more commonly called, is a spiral galaxy located approx 21 million light-years away in the constellation Usra Major. Mqoq contains approx 1 trillion stars and contains an unusually high number of HII regions. There does not appear to be a supermassive black hole at the center of this galaxy. Its asymmetrical shape indicates that it has had interactions with its smaller companion galaxies in the past.
